Living Proverbs 22:6
I've been sitting here in front of my computer for a while now...not sure in what the Lord wants me to share with all of you today...
I continually pray and ask for guidance as to how He would want to use the Living Proverbs 22:6 posts. Clearly from the beginning, He as given the answer that I should simply share my journey of parenting with you. To share praises, struggles and sometimes the pain of training four children.
Which on a lighter note, there has been MUCH pain in potty training Kolton! =)
But today I'm a little messy inside and don't know what to share. Which for those of you who know me...might find that surprising!! I always have my two bits to share, right?! So we will see what spills out on the screen today as I pray for the Holy Spirit to lead my words....
Lately the Lord has been giving situations to stretch and grow my faith. He is continuing to mold me, which hurts...but I praise Him for it! Praise God that He doesn't give up on us!! There are no words to describe the grace and mercy He has shown me in my life!
Thank you Lord!!
And how does that relate to our children?? Sometimes, I feel that I have so much mess in me that I can't possibly teach them correctly. Or worse yet...teach them one thing then live out another. Yikes... It's a constant reality check. Our children see our best and worst! How do we handle our worst? Do we brush it under the rug and next time around that same mountain handle the situation the same darn way?
It happens...and it happens to me more than I care to admit.
I get stuck on myself! Stuck in sin, but praise God when He reveals that to us. When we see it for what it is...we can lay it down. Jesus said "My yoke is easy and My burden is light"...we don't need to carry the burdens we do. But, man it is a long process of dying to our stenchy flesh.
*sigh*
Don't let your current situation, the burdens weighing you down, hinder you from seeing the awesome wonderful gifts (your children) He has given you!! Life is HARD WORK! Parenting is HARD WORK!! But don't give up!!
FOCUS on them!!
ENJOY them!!
LOVE them unconditionally!!
LISTEN to them contently!!
TEACH them the TRUTH and the HOPE we have in Christ!!
SHOW your love for Christ by living it out in front of them!!
CHERISH every second you have them with you!!
We will have mountains and valleys to travel through...walk it out together!! Live out your faith together hand in hand while standing on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ!!
Now...
"Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ." Col 2:6-8

The Holy Bible is our manual for living. It holds the answer to every question and gives hope to every situation that this world has for us. The problem is that we don't use it as we should. We look at people to give us direction and self help books to heal our problems. Well folks...we will never be able to depend on those things. There is NO HOPE within ourselves or things of this world. Our only hope is in Jesus Christ, believing that He died on that cross for our sins and resurrected on that third day!!
We are currently going through the book of Mark at our Fellowship
(Calvary Christian Fellowship -link on the sidebar)
Chapter 10 starts off with two big topics, divorce and children.
You know, reading the word of God word for word...and then allowing the Holy Spirit to work in our heart -WOW! I don't really have words to describe it. There are no words to describe it!! Sometimes its encouraging and sometimes it reveals the sin we still have to work through.
Well, I want to share the message with you today. As I was listening to Pastor Jim, my heart caught fire!! The entire message goes right along with Living out Proverbs 22:6!
to listen to what the Lord has to say concerning divorce and concerning children.
Please don't think that this is a bash session if you have been divorced, it's not. Or if you haven't been divorced, please don't think that this won't apply to your life, it will!! =)
I'm sharing this because the Holy Spirit can speak to everyone of us through it...and I pray that we are open to receive and be changed people through it!
Much love everyone!!

Living Proverbs 22:6
KINDNESS~ Seeing needs in the lives of others as opportunities to demonstrate my love for Christ.
I received this message in a thank you card. After reading it many times and holding on to it for a long while, it was strong on my heart that I should teach this to our children. It's a loaded statement! Being truly KIND goes much deeper than just using your manners.
It's a heart matter.
It's a where's my relationship with Christ matter.
This whole month along side our morning Bible and prayer time, we are discussing KINDNESS. We are digging in to the above description of KINDNESS and have spent time looking up and memorizing scriptures to support God's call for us to be KIND.
"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you." Eph. 4:32
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness..." Gal. 5:22
"But love your enemies, and do good and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men." Luke 6:35
These are just a few that we have looked at so far....
Seeing needs in others. I asked what they thought that meant. Most of their answers were big...like if someone needed food or a house. Yes, they are absolutely right! But I encouraged them to keep their eyes open for the little needs that are all around us daily. Maybe they could pick up a pencil that dropped on the floor. Maybe someone needs a KIND word of encouragement. How about instead of the first one to recess that you are the last to ask your teacher if they need help or push in the chairs that are left out? What about the kid in class that treats you badly? How could you be kind to them??
What about us as parents?? How do we see the needs in others?
What we do...our children will do!!
By showing KINDNESS to others, we are ultimately showing our love for Christ!!
We are showing THE LOVE OF CHRIST!!
"We love, because He first loved us" 1 John 4:19
To show true KINDNESS we must deny self. We must put Christ first, others second and ourselves last. Daily pick up that heavy cross and move forward...
It's a choice.
Do you love Christ??
Then I challenge you seek out opportunities to demonstrate that love to others!! Even those we think deserve that kindness the least...
You WILL be blessed!
=) ~Tina

Malachi was nominated through someone who has never met or knows the family except through reading their blog. They came to her mind as we were emailing back and forth and she gave me their blog info. I truly believe that if God gives you a door you walk through it so I contacted Marissa and here we are!!
So how can you help support Malachi??
First and foremost with prayer!!
PRAY- PRAY- PRAY! Write this sweet babies name down so your eyes see it frequently and pray for him throughout the day! It is the most powerful thing we can be doing!!
Spread the word!! Ask others to pray!! Bring awareness to his condition...allow God to use you as a vessel to do His work!!
Donate!! Help this family financially, by making a donation! A chipin was set up in the left sidebar. We are setting a $1000 goal this month! Can you help us meet that goal??
All donations go directly to the Sharbaugh Family. Every penny counts! Even $5 can help them with all the medical expenses! Help us raise money and copy the chipin html code and place it on your site...again, spread the word! =)
As an extra incentive, for every dollar received you will be entered into a drawing! I'll be working on the giveaway item this week, and will let you know what it is very soon!!
Go visit their blog today and catch up on little Malachi!! Take a moment to leave an encouraging word and please let them know that you are praying for their little boy!!
Have a wonderful day in Christ!
"In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35

Living Proverbs 22:6
It feels really good to get back into the swing of things after the Holiday's! I was blessed to have two straight weeks with our children during their CHRISTmas/New Year break! It was great to just hang out and do whatever we wanted that day!! But after two weeks of little structure and schedule, I think we all needed and looked forward to our daily routine because things were getting a little crazy!! =)
Getting back on track with our morning Bible and prayer time is awesome! If you don't do this with your children *I really encourage you to start!! If your faith is important to you...you'll choose to put it FIRST in your lives! There is no better way to start each day than to open God's word and dig in IT along with your breakfast!! I need this just as much as our children do!
It's a choice and a commitment...just as everything else that is important to us.
Now, I feel on my heart to mention that some days there is one obstacle in front of another to do this. I don't want to give you the impression that the Thompson family is holier than thou, perfect, never struggle and open their Bibles everyday. That is not near the truth. Living out our faith is hard and sometimes ugly due to the areas of sin we/I still struggle with. Sometimes I look at another family and think...wow, they have it all together. But the truth is that if you peek in their windows they deal with the same issues you and I deal with! I feel that the enemy fills our heads with defeated lies so that we don't push through the valley to get to the beautiful mountain side!
To be honest...it's those days that I don't choose to spend quality time in my Bible that I struggle more! Now I can honestly say that I open my Bible everyday, but that doesn't count. I'm talking about REALLY digging in and absorbing the Word in it's fullness, not just a scripture here and there. It's our daily bread, our strength, our armor, instruction and encouragement to get through each day in a Godly manner. When we don't equip ourselves DAILY...things go quickly down into the pooper!
In our Bible time this morning the Holy Spirit gave me an example to share...
We have a little yellow strainer that the kids play with in the bath tub. I asked them to think of themselves as that little strainer. I asked what happened when they reached up and turned on the water over that strainer. It pours down into the strainer right?? And we have the control on how hard we turn on the water. If we turn it on just a little bit...a little bit trickles down through the strainer and might dribble out a few holes. If we turn it on full force...WOW...(the kids faces LIT up) how it is overflowing over every side, BURSTING through all the little holes out the bottom, streaming down in every direction!!!!
Isn't that an example of our faith? God is always there waiting on us. He gives us free will and the choice to reach up and grab hold of that faucet....but how far are you turning on the water?? You know that the facet is their right? But how much water are you allowing to yourself? Is it only allow a dribble to flowing down to you? Maybe a little more when there is a difficult time going on in your life...but when it passes, you slow the stream back down again??
This was my life for many years...I believed in God. I prayed to Him. But honestly, it was only during a crisis or tough time that I needed Him to get me through. I describe myself now, as a crisis prayer...and I only had a small trickle or sometimes thin stream of water flowing down. I didn't have much of God to fill me let alone flow down to my children.
Most of my issues were about control. I wanted to control my own life...I wasn't really taught about who God REALLY is...sure, I prayed the sinner's prayer (a few times over), but did not completely surrender my life to Him. Hmmm, maybe I thought my life would be boring or I'd have to give up too much....
But what would happen if we all would turn that water on all the way!! WOW!! My face lights up just as my kids faces this morning!! We would be so full!! So full that we flow down to everyone around us...and Christ could use us to help fill them up to!! That we would pour into them the joy, hope and peace that we can only receive through Christ!!
WOW!!
I pray that we would draw closer to the Lord in 2010!! That we make the choice DAILY to reach up and grab that faucet...that we would pour the Living Word into ourselves and watch how God will faithfully fill and overflow us!!
Let me tell you...we will not give up anything, but gain! And life will absolutely not be boring but more adventurous than ever before!!
Much love~Tina

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your body
And refreshment to your bones."
