Are you dry and rocky or are you well watered?

I used to walk around the outside of our house every day. I would walk around and look at my flower beds. I love to garden! I’d stop and soak up the beauty, watch all the bees and other insects busy at work, pull weeds and just enjoy. It has been a long time since I’ve done that! We actually reluctantly put mulch around the house this year because I haven’t been able to keep up with them and the weeds were taking over. While the kids were eating lunch today, I stepped outside into the sun. I LOVE the sun!! It almost feels like the Lord just surrounding me with a big warm hug, but anyway I took a walk. I started walking around my house and noticed all the weeds starting to pop through the heavy mulch. I see my dry neglected flowers barely hanging on due to dry weather. There is an area where there is no mulch, simply because we ran out and haven’t gotten anymore yet. But in that spot the ground is so dry that it has deeply cracked and many rocks have surfaced. I just stopped and stared at it…I would have never let my soil get so dry, rocky and weeded in years past! I have neglected things. But as I stood there the Lord just spoke to my heart. How is my soil? My spiritual soil will dry, crack and get rocky if I don’t keep it watered. It is so easy to just start your day and flow right along with it before you know it your crawling into bed. Yes I pray and get into God’s word daily but sometimes even that just flows along with the motions of the day. Not intentionally but it does. I can make excuses if I want, but simply…I need more water, I’m thirsty and will crack (maybe literally =) if I don’t get submersed with God’s word. And then I look all around me…all these children. If I’m dry, cracked and rocky, what will I flow down to them? Nothing. I pray Lord for the waters to flow down to them, through them and on to others.

“Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” John 4:14

I have been feeling this way for weeks now and I was not sure how to blog it....I am going to use your blog and express how I am feeling. Wow, thank you. I enjoy reading your blog and finding hope and encouragement. I am also feeling dry these day with everything going on. It helps to know that the way I feel is normal and can be fixed by our Lord ad how comforting is that.
