Yay...FREE FRIDAY!!

Happy Yay...Free/Good Friday Everyone!

As we celebrate the death/resurrection of our Savior this weekend, I ask you to open your Bibles. Let us all be still, ponder and absorb what Jesus really did for us... Holy Spirit, meet us and help us understand a little bit more...

"And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. and behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised" Matthew 27: 50-52

Then, at dawn on the Sabbath...

"And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, "do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you" And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples and behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him." Matthew 28:2-9

Philippians 3:10-12
I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

I don't have a favorite verse for Easter. My favorite image is Jesus in the Garden giving his will over to God. Something I strive for everyday.

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:8-11

John 19:30
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

I like this verse because it is a good reminder of the great sacrifice Jesus made on the cross, but also the ultimate victory over sin and death. The struggle, the war, the hopelessness is finished! Halelujah!

Thank you for posting such a wonderful passage and post. A wonderful way to start off this Good Friday. It was a year ago TODAY that we were traveling to China to meet our precious little girl. The scripture that comes to mind for ALL God's wonderful gifts and blessings, including the precious gift of His son, is 2 Corinthians 9:15 "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift." May your Good Friday and Easter be blessed.

Romans 1:4-5
And Jesus Christ our Lord was shown to be the Son of God when God powerfully raised him from the dead by means of the Holy Spirit. Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name.

Hope you have a wonderful Easter!

I love Philippians 3:10+ also, for the descriptions of WHAT the Cross means for the life of those who believe.

I'd love to win the gift certificate to get a dolly for my Li'l Empress. She's just starting to really get into imaginative play and it's fun to watch her "feed" her sister's babies.

Luke 22:42-44. I can't actually say it is a favorite because it makes me sad, but I think it is powerful that Jesus got a glimpse of what he would experience on the day of His crucifixion and that it was so overwhelming that an angel had to come strengthen Him. He suffered tremendously for us. And He chose it. He knew what was coming and how horrible it would be and He chose it because He loved us THAT much. Incredible.

I love the beauty/intentionality of the verses leading up to Jesus' death and resurrection... seeing that he was anointed with oil in the house of a leper, seeing his heart and anguish over what was going to happen in the garden of gethsemane. These passages truly remind me of the love and passion of our Lord- that he knew exactly the price he was paying and for whom he was paying it... Such love.

I went with a favorite Good Friday quote because after all today is Good Friday & the whole reason we celebrate Good Friday/Easter in the first place.

Jesus cried with a loud voice: "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.
In you, O LORD, I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame.
In your justice rescue me.
Into your hands I commend my spirit;
you will redeem me, O LORD, O faithful God."
- Luke 23:46

Philippians 2:5-11
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Happy Easter! He is Risen!
